About the Role
We’re looking for a Lead Architect / Senior Backend Engineer based in Michigan to join our engineering team. You’ll lead the back-end development of online tools that power the future of music - serving musical artists, labels and other aggregators in the music industry. This is a chance to help shape a fast-moving, creator-first platform from the ground up.
You’ll lead, be very hands on, and drive the technical vision for all our software and AWS infra. This includes supporting our front-end and back-end customer facing services, API service, and distributed audio ingestion pipeline & processor. You will shape all technology decisions from how to keep developers productive to staying out in front with AI advancements.
Responsibilities
- Take on the existing backend infrastructure and code which provides audio/media management for artists and AI which transforms audio assets. This includes an API library of proprietary and open-source code which support a rich front-end.
- Build and maintain advanced back-end features using Python, Postgres, and other related elements in the tech stack to support our React-based front-end.
- Manage and improve our AWS service usage, including S3, ECS/EC2, etc.
- Develop backend api services which can be used from our customer-facing front-end as well as from other products which require direct api connections.
- Collaborate with design, product, and front-end teams to deliver resilient, safe and reliable experiences.
- Optimize applications for speed, performance, and responsiveness, to support scale throughout the growth of our products.
Requirements
- Experienced python and AWS developer to lead back-end architecture and drive thoughtful, scalable technical designs.
- AWS service experience - including setup, maintenance and problem solving for S3, ECS, EC2, SQS, Lambda, and others.
- You should be able to describe in detail a product you’ve delivered or system you’ve built. Highlighting decisions you’ve made and what you’ve learned from it.
- Experience and enthusiasm for adjunct technologies for observability, testing, deployment, experimentation, logging, analytics. Part of this role is evaluating and incorporating the right technologies.
- Strong communication is a must, spanning design/architecture, strategy, remote team communication, collaborating with technical partners
- Leadership experience a plus – TL’ing, managing, mentorship, building culture
- Deep understanding of backend designs to support multiple front-end entry points and direct API access, with scalable component architecture
- Strong proficiency in Python
- Proven experience building back-ends to support responsive, high-performance web applications and direct API end points.
- Solid grasp of asynchronous data flows and working with RESTful APIs
- Proficiency with Git and collaborative development workflows (e.g. code reviews, pull requests)
- Must be based in Michigan (remote within the state is welcome)
- Bonus if you have a passion for music, creator tools, or media tech
Nice to Have
- AI Pipeline processing and LLM Model integrations, including retraining models.
- AWS hosting, route53, cloudfront, log familiarity, etc.
- Background in music tech, audio tools, or creator platforms
- Experience writing unit and integration tests
